How many tours does Ubiquity International currently offer?

Please visit our tours pages to view the most current offerings.

How long does a typical tour last?

Ubiquity International tours usually have duration of 10 to 12 days.

I noticed that many Ubiquity International tours have a single location with excursions from that point. Why?

We feel that the greatest benefit can be gained from staying in the same city (with excursions) for a longer period of time.

How old do you have to be to take a tour with Ubiquity International?

Ubiquity International has adopted a categorization of tours to help you make decision about which tours fit your needs best. You will find each tour designated as follows:

C-Chaperoned. These are tours primarily designed for minor students and Ubiquity International arranges for chaperones.

F-Family. These are tours primarily designed for adults and minors to travel together. Chaperones are not ordinarily provided.

A-Adults only. These are tours designed for adults to travel without minors.

However, no minor under 12 will be able to travel without an adult family member or friend, unless specifically arranged with Ubiquity International.

Are younger travelers supervised if they travel without their parents?

Yes. On chaperoned tours, chaperones are appointed to supervise these travelers. The number of chaperones will depend on the size of the group and the number of unaccompanied minors.

What is the average size of a group?
Most groups are 20 people in size. Some special tours can be larger or smaller.

Is credit available for participating in a Ubiquity International tour?

Yes, Ubiquity International has partnered with Eastern Washington University to allow students, teachers and other professions to earn credit for participating in one of our tours. Please see: Academic Credit.

Do I have to reside near the departure point for tours with included airfare?

Not at all. Tours are designed so that anyone can participate, no matter their residence or location at the start of the tour. This is also why airfare is not included-it allows you to travel to the tour origination point at your leisure. However, check the information for each tour closely-a few specialized tours are designed with airfare from a particular location. In that case you still do not need to live in that area, but you can contact us for help in making the connecting flight.

Do all tours cost the same price?

No. The cost of a tour depends on a number of factors-duration, location, accommodation type, time of year, etc.

Can I take multiple tours during the same season?

Absolutely! You can participate in as many Ubiquity International tours in a season as you like.

Does Ubiquity International offer language classes for travelers who are interested in learning the basics of a foreign language?

From time to time, Ubiquity International does provide language classes for tour participants. You should watch updates and subscribe to the Newsletter [link] to be informed when these are available.

Once I've made my deposit for one tour, is it possible to change to another tour?

You might be able to change if you do so before the Final Payment Due Date of the tour for which you already are registered. Be aware that because certain fees and deposits are paid on your behalf, you may incur additional charges.

Does Ubiquity International only arrange tours for students and families?

No. Ubiquity International is continually providing opportunities for diverse groups. Please check the website regularly for updates.

Why isn't airfare included in my Ubiquity International trip?

Airfare is usually not included in a Ubiquity International trip in order to allow you the greatest amount of flexibility in planning your trip. You just need to arrive at the destination city in time for the commencement of the tour-you can arrive a few days or weeks earlier if you wanted. You can also depart later than the end of the tour. In any case, Ubiquity International is happy to assist you with making air (or cruise) arrangements to arrive in the destination city. Please contact us to see what we can do to help. Be sure to check the tour details closely-occasionally, airfare will be included.

What is a Cultural Specialist?
A Cultural Specialist (CS) is a person with advanced knowledge and a deep love of a particular area related to a trip. The CS accompanies the group throughout each day and leads the symposia. The CS provides the extra bit of personal attention that makes each Ubiquity International tour special.

What is a Destination Coordinator?

A Destination Coordinator (DC) is the person responsible at the trip destination for ensuring that all the details of the itinerary are met. The DC is likely to meet you at the airport or train station and ensure that you reach your hotel safely. The DC is typically available 24 hours a day-if you have an emergency, the DC is there to help you; if you need to find the best route to a family friend's house the DC can help you.

What transportation is included in the tour cost?

All transportation that is related to the completion of the tour itinerary abroad is included in the tour cost. This means that any time you are expected to be at a museum or site, or you are expected to travel between two cities on the itinerary, the cost is included. What is not included are personal transportation needs not necessary to complete the itinerary.

Can Ubiquity International suggest any books to read before I go on my tour?

Yes! We continually update or suggested reading list (which is also a list of art and media) for participants in our trips. These suggestions are also great for anyone interested in the area that our trips cover. Visit the Books & More page to find our suggestions.

Can I join the tour after it has already begun?
In rare circumstances we can take late additions to trips. However, a late fee will be assessed and other charges may also be assessed.

What is a symposium? What are symposia?

Symposia are times when the groups gather in the evening or afternoon to 'put all the pieces together.' Let's take an example. Say on a visit to Rome your group goes to the Vatican museum and the day before went to the forum. The Cultural Specialist will help you to put the pieces together. He or she can help you see how visiting the forum relates to visiting the Vatican museum. He or she can help you see how visiting the Vatican museum relations to having dinner in the Testaccio. And so forth...

How will I know what to bring with me on my trip?
Depending on the make-up of the group, you may be invited to a pre-trip meeting where these details are outlined for you. If your group is not of the sort that would allow such a meeting or you are unable to attend one, Ubiquity International will make such information available to you. Watch for a future Ubiquity International webpage update where you can easily and quickly find this information.

Why is Travel Insurance included? Doesn't my own insurance cover me?

Drawing from experience with tours, Ubiquity International has realized that most travelers do not buy travel insurance and the insurance most travelers already have will not cover them for foreign travel incidents. We believe that we should provide full service. We have chosen the travel insurance we provide because of the confidence expressed in the insurance by previous tour participants who have been pleased with the service.

Many times your own insurance will not cover you for foreign incidents. You must contact your own agent to determine coverage.

Even if you do have your own insurance, the Travel Insurance we provide is still included (though in the event of an incident, it will be up to you and insurance companies to determine who will cover you). The price of Travel Insurance is a part of the package price.

While Ubiquity International provides this insurance as a part of the package, it does not necessarily endorse it as the best or the most comprehensive. However, after considering many options and taking into account previous tour participant's experience, we believe this insurance is acceptable.

Please click here: Travel Insurance for more details.

What if Ubiquity International cancels a tour?
If Ubiquity International cancels a tour, you will be refunded all of the funds you paid.  However, please note that some exceptions apply as allowed by law.  See the Seller of Travel information.
